Pertuzumab - What is it for

​Pertuzumab is a monoclonal antibody which targets a certain type of protein on the surface of cancer cells to control their growth.

Pertuzumab - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Pertuzumab cause?

During infusion

  • Allergic reactions uncommonly develop during the first infusion. Symptoms may include chills, rigors, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, flushing or itch.
    Alert your nurse if you experience any of the above during the infusion.

Other possible side effects (usually mild)

  • Fatigue
  • Flu-like symptoms e.g. headache, weakness and fever

Serious but uncommon side effects

  • Rarely, it affects the pumping action of your heart.
    Your doctor may arrange for a test to check your heart function every few months while you are on this treatment.

Please seek medical attention if any of the following occurs:

  • Persistent or worsening of flu-like symptoms
  • Persistent cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of hands or legs
