  • Instructions

There are three stages to using the folic acid solution kit: preparation, administration and cleaning.

    Stage 1 : Preparation

Prepare a new bottle of the medicine every week with the reusable solution kit:

    • One amber bottle with stopper and cap
    • 10 mL syringe
    • Cooled boiled water
    1. Using the 10 mL syringe, measure 50mL of cooled boiled water and transfer into the bottle.
    2. Add one Folic acid 5mg tablet into the bottle.
    3. Put the stopper back and screw the black cap on. Leave to stand at room temperature for approximately 40-45 minutes to allow the tablet to dissolve.
    4. Shake the bottle well. The tablet should have dissolved to give a translucent solution.
    5. The oral folic acid suspension is now ready for use.
    6. Store the medicine in the fridge for up to 1 week (7 days expiry upon preparation).

Tip: To remember when to prepare – choose a day of the week and note it down either in your calendar or this leaflet /bottle label.

Day of Preparation: Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun (circle accordingly).

Stage 2. Administration

Use the 1 mL syringe provided with your medicine to measure the correct dose.
  1.  Always shake the bottle well before taking each dose to obtain a uniform mixture.
  2.  Syringe out and administer the correct dose.
  3.  Take the syringe apart (plunger and dispenser) straight after dosing, and rinse both parts of the syringe  under running tap water
  4.  After one week, empty the remaining contents in the bottle into the sink. Wash the bottle and allow to dry.
  5.  Prepare a new suspension by following steps in Stage 1 using the other bottle provided.

Stage 3. Cleaning

The contents of the kit are reusable and should be cleaned thoroughly before each use.

Syringes (plunger and dispenser): This should be cleaned after each use. They can be cleaned by rinsing both parts of the syringe under running tap water and allow to dry after.

Amber bottles: As they are used for weekly preparation; it must be cleaned after the remaining contents are discarded each week. Wash the bottle and cap with soap and rinse with tap water; if desired the bottle can be soaked in hot water before allowing it to dry. Two amber bottles are provided to allow sufficient time for cleaning and drying.
