Undergraduate Programmes

SingHealth Polyclinics is an accredited training centre for Family Medicine teaching. SHP PRIME provides undergraduate training for:

  • Duke-NUS medical students
  • Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine students
  • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine students
  • Overseas medical colleges

Every year, medical students from the 3 medical schools in Singapore are posted to our clinics to learn the principles of Family Medicine as part of their community health rotations. In recent years, we have also accepted medical students from medical schools outside Singapore for attachments to our clinics.

Programme
The attachments could be an elective programme or a formal community health rotation in their curriculum. These programmes typically last four weeks to eight weeks, and customised to meet the learning needs of students.

At the polyclinics, students will be involved in sit-in sessions with the supervisor, and also rotated to several service points in the clinics. As a public primary healthcare institution, SHP manages a wide spectrum of conditions, ranging from acute care and chronic disease management to preventive care.

We also assist in making arrangements for students to be attached to other primary care centres when appropriate. Each student will have a supervisor assigned to him or her. All our supervisors hold a postgraduate degree in family medicine and are adjunct tutors with the local medical school.

Application
Every student brings a piece of valuable experience back with them at the end of the attachment and we have been very encouraged by the positive feedback given by the students so far.
