Dr Hwang Siew Wai is the Deputy Director of Education (PRIME) at SingHealth Polyclinics, and leads a team in providing education and training to healthcare providers in the community and to community partners. By doing so, his aim is to allow them to upgrade themselves to be able to provide a higher level of healthcare to the community and to strengthen SingHealth’s reputation as a Family Medicine Academic Training Centre.
In addition, Dr Hwang has been the Clinic Director at SingHealth Polyclinics – Bukit Merah for over 15 years. Besides performing the administrative duties leading the polyclinic team, he treats patients that present to the general clinic and manages complex chronic medical cases such as diabetes and hypertension at the Family Physician Clinic. He has been recognized for the excellent care of his patients with the SingHealth Outstanding Clinician Award as well as the Singapore Health Quality and Service Award (Gold).
He holds appointments at various committees such as the Ministry of Health’s Drug Advisory Committee At the polyclinic level, he sits in the Clinical Governance Steering Committee, Ensure Safer Systems Steering Committee and Quality Improvement Committee.
Dr. Hwang has a deep passion for teaching and is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. In recognition of his dedication, he was conferred the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence by the National University of Singapore (NUS) twice. In addition, he was awarded the Special Recognition Award for Teaching by NUS on five occasions in 2017, 2018, 2021,2022 and 2025. He is in the Residency Focus Area Subcommittee for Healthcare Quality and Professionalism that looks into the standards of training in quality improvement and the conduct of Family Medicine residents.
He has served as a member of the Family Medicine Residency Advisory Committee which oversees the training program for the specialty of Family Medicine in Singapore. He is currently an Clinical Assistant Professor for NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor for Duke-NUS Medical School and Physician Faculty Member for the SingHealth Family Medicine Residency Program.
In recognition of his contribution to the nation, Dr Hwang has been conferred the Covid-19 Commendation Medal, the Covid-19 Resilience Medal, the Long Service Award Medal and the Public Service Administration (Bronze) Medal by the Government of Singapore.
