The Singapore Cord Blood Bank (SCBB) now offers family storage service, under its community cord blood banking service.

SCBB's new Community Cord Blood Banking allows parents-to-be the flexibility to store their baby's cord blood for the family, with an option to donate it to patients with blood cancers and other disorders, for example Leukaemia or Lymphoma.
According to SCBB's CEO, Mrs Tan-Huang Shuo Mei, the family storage service arose from repeated requests from parents who wanted to store their baby's cord blood, with the option to donate later.
"Currently, more than 50% of cord blood from babies are neither donated nor stored privately. If we can help to store these precious cord blood units that are rich in stem cells, we can potentially save more lives."
