"The process of blood transfusion is more sophisticated than it looks. There are four major blood groups which most people know: A, B, AB and O. However, each blood type contains multiple variations. In total, there can be more than 300 antigens to be considered in blood transfusion.
As a laboratory staff in KKH's blood bank, it is my responsibility to ensure our patients receive a perfectly safe blood transfusion in a timely manner.
My job is to ensure a smooth operation of the blood bank laboratory and its automated analyser. Throughout the day, we prepare blood for transfusions to our medical, oncology and thalassemia patients. We also prepare blood for surgeries, as there is always a potential for unexpected blood loss during any surgical procedures.
Blood is a gift of life, and it's the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person."
