Making A Difference In The Lives of PC beneficiaries in 2010.

National Dental Centre - Interacting with Members of Down Syndrome Association

NDC Singapore hosted 22 members from the Down Syndrome Association (DSA) and their families for a leisurely afternoon at its premises on 29 August 2010. They were treated to light-hearted games, lucky draw, a movie screening and tea. The iinteraction was planned to provide sensory processing stimulation, an aspect where people with Down syndrome will need more of. The good oral hygiene message was also brought to this very special group of guests through a very useful hands-on demo. NDC's volunteers, in turn, learned about the behaviour patterns of people with Down syndrome from DSA's programme executive.

National Heart Centre Singapore - Teambuilding with Care Corner Family Service Centre (Woodlands)

NHCS brought a group of children from Care Corner Family Service Centre (Woodlands) to SAFRA @ Mount Faber for some team building games on a balmy Sunday. Assisted by staff from the inpatient wards, outpatient clinic, cardiac rehabilitation, medical social services and corporate development departments, the games were conducted in the water in a fun and safe manner. The winning and first runner up team walked away with Popular bookstore vouchers and each child was given a goodie bag comprising a document bag, water bottle and some stationery and titbits. Not forgetting our Chief Operating Officer, Mr Alson Goh who paid for the swimming suits for 5 children who otherwise had to sit by the poolside to watch their friends play as they had forgotten to bring their swim wear. The event ended with a simple lunch and a happy bunch of children (you can see the smiles on their face).

KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) - Connecting with Marine Parade Family Service Centre and Casa Raudha Women’s Home

KKH invited 40 children from Marine Parade Family Service Centre and Casa Raudha Women Home to its hospital on 10 August for a good time of storytelling session put up by KKH CEO, Prof Ivy Ng and the nurses and followed by a funfair manned by its staff. KKH also arranged for a special appearance by Ronald MacDonald and the magician performance that put a smile on everyone! Check out the photos here.

On 20 August, KKH's Dietitian and Exercise Physiologists shared useful tips to keep healthy and fit during Ramadan with the female clients of Casa Raudha Women Home. The pysiologists educated them on the types of healthy meal plans for the fasting period and demonstrated simple exercises using the therapy bands and pedometers which KKH gave. At the end of the talk, every participant was given a goodie bag that was stocked with abundant samples of healthy foods.
