Family Medicine Training
SingHealth Polyclinics is an accredited Family Medicine Training Centre. We have a pool of experienced Family Medicine Tutors who are involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Our structured training program complements that of the College of Family Physicians to prepare Trainees for the Master in Medicine (Family Medicine) Examination. Our training activities include:
Mentorship programme
Each trainee is attached to an experienced Family Physician in our organization. This gives the trainee ample opportunities to interact with this senior doctor, who will also guide him/her in the Family Medicine learning journey.
Tutorials
Ten system-based tutorial sessions are held on a monthly basis per year. In these tutorials, trainees learn to approach clinical problems from a Family Medicine perspective.
Sit-in sessions
Introduced in 2008, this small group teaching session allows each trainee is observed by a Family Physician and a fellow trainee in the clinical
setting. This facilitates constructive feedback to be given to the trainee on communication skills and consultation tasks.
Clinic attachments
We organize external clinic attachments to the hospital specialist outpatient clinics for trainees to enhance their knowledge in the various specialist fields.
Mock examinations
Mock examinations are held on a yearly basis just before the Masters in Medicine (Family Medicine) examinations. The mock examinations provide opportunities for trainees to sharpen their examination skills.
Programmes organized together with the College of Family Physicians include:
- Professorials
- Case studies on clinical and professional topics (monthly session)
- Audit workshop
- Critical reading workshop
