Diabetic Retinal Photography Workshop

Patients with diabetes mellitus can develop diabetic retinopathy, which will lead to blindness if left untreated. Early detection, followed by proper management can reduce the risk of blindness. Screening can be done by taking a retinal photograph to assess the status of the retinal. The retinal photographs would be read by a doctor.
Workshop
SHP has been organizing workshops to train Family Physicians in interpreting DRP photographs. The session is conducted by an ophthalmologist, and is done in an interactive manner to optimize learning. The training also includes appropriate management plan for the various findings detected in the DRP photographs. Accurate interpretation of the retinal photograph is important so that proper advice may be given to the patient, and appropriate referral made to ophthalmologist if necessary.
